Cuenca’s Mariscal La Mar Airport reopened a full week ahead of schedule on September 12. The airport had been closed since August 19 to resurface the runway and was originally not expected to open until September 20.
According to local officials, good weather conditions allowed the project to be completed more quickly than anticipated. The clear weather accelerated the drying time required for the new asphalt strip.
All commercial flights are now back on schedule!
